This new release presents the recording premiere of four recent works by composer Taylor Brook, performed by TAK Ensemble. + TAK Ensemble is an outstanding quintet featuring flute, clarinet, violin, percussion, and voice. Some of New York’s most exciting new performers are involved in the ensemble, like Laura Cocks and Marina Kifferstein. + The album’s track title, Ecstatic Music, is a virtuosic work for violin and percussion. Violinist Marina Kifferstein and percussionist Ellery Trafford rise to the challenges brilliantly. The ‘ecstatic’ state of the work is achieved through a system which employs fragile instrumental techniques and microtonal tuning systems. The percussionist plays two microtonally tuned guitars in this piece, and works with the violinist as a single unit.
