About
One of the most exciting musicians on his instrument to emerge in years, German violist Veit Hertenstein has been invited to the Marlboro Music Festival, the Seiji Ozawa International Music Academy, the Viola Space Festival Tokyo, Menuhin Festival in Gstaad and the Verbier Festival, where he was awarded the “Henri Louis de la Grange” viola prize
The album includes Veit’s own viola adaptation of a selection of Shostakovich’s Préludes from Op.34, as well as Vadim Borisovsky’s viola arrangement of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet.
Shostakovich commented that the ‘violinistic’ sound of Zyganow’s adapted Préludes from Op.34 caused him to forget that the work was originally written for solo piano. Veit’s arrangement echoes this quality, while also conveying the darker tone colours of the work
