Our new opus is based on an educational musical composition intended for children in the 18th Century1. It offers a totally fresh approach to the Fables, providing familiarity with the song versions of the fables while offering the audience a genuine fantasy, far beyond a mere musical illustrationLa Fontaine’s fables were intended for a large audience, and the titles we propose here were intended mainly for young people The principal interest of this collection resides in the nature of the work performed by Clérambault and his poet. The Fables of La Fontaine3 had not been intended to be set to music, thus a wondrous effort was required in order to produce a versification that would suit musical composition. However, the movement of the music implies a very concise versification, and one cannot but admire the work of the anonymous poet4 who nevertheless faithfully reproduces the original text.
