About

Salvador Torre’s music is highly personal, a feature that not only in the present, but also during the passionate history of music, has been a vital element when it comes to imbuing it with the singularity of a certain style. The beauty and expressive effectiveness of many of Torre’s works is founded on a control of the instrumental gesture, not abstract nor theoric from a treatise on orchestration, but on the contrary on the direct practice, which generates an organic gesture of extreme preciseness and beauty, originated on the fact that Salvador Torre is an excellent flutist who knows how to make the technical, physical and energetic-expressive control of his instrument transcend to the compositional terrain. His pieces fully participate of current instrumental techniques, also called extended techniques that he uses and applies not in an odd way, but rather as a natural and direct enriching element to his language and expression. This feature is especially noticeable on the TZOLKÍN cycle, although these are pieces written almost 20 years before the publication of this CD, they have not aged at all and show a composer that from the very beginning has looked for the fusion between past and present, not in an anecdotic way, but rather reaching for the essence of ancient cultures to which he belongs, that imbricate with the present and transform it.
