One of the most renowned classical music conductors of the twentieth century, Herbert von Karajan (1908-1989), born in Austria, was in charge of the Berlin Philharmonic for 35 years. A dominant figure in European classical music from the mid-1950s until his death, Karajan recorded prolifically and was the top-selling classical music recording artist of all time, having sold an estimated 200 million records. This release presents Karajan’s 1957 recording of Anton Bruckner’s monumental Symphony No.8 (originally issued on a 2-LP set). As a bonus, we have added several German overtures recorded by Karajan a few years later.
