About

One of Europe’s foremost specialists in the contemporary flute world, Karin de Fleyt is a Belgian musician who has been working in the UK and has produced this album containing three very different works – one for flute and wind orchestra, one for mixed flutes and clarinets and piano, and one for amplified solo bass flute.

The solo work is by celebrated English composer Christopher Fox, one of the most individual of all modern composers, the concerto by Paul Goodey and the ensemble piece by Rolf Gehlhaar. All three allow the soloist to demonstrate many different techniques to varying degrees, the Concerto being relatively tonal compared to the chamber work and the most avant-garde being Fox’s work. Featuring two other acclaimed soloists and theWind Orchestra of the Royal Northern College, a fine addition to the repertoire.

Karin de Fleyt plays the flute, alto flute, piccolo and bass flute, as well as shakuhachi and bansuri flute. She is a performer constantly looking for new experiments with flute, often resulting in great

collaborations with many well known composers, one of the most memorable is a ten year collaboration with Karlheinz Stockhausen. Karin is a renowned soloist in contemporary music, solo flutist and member of the artistic board in the HERMES Ensemble.
