Robert Schumann's dramatic poem Manfred Op.115, by Lord Byron's eponymous poem, equally combines dramatical and oratorical elements. Sitting in the position between different genres lies the fascination and the novelty of the concept of this work, premiered in 1852. Regrettably, only the effective Overture has a secured place in the repertoire, making complete recordings rare. This fine recording from Ars Produktion represents an important addition to the Schumann Discography.
