Unlike in his Chrysostom liturgy op. 31, Sergei Rachmaninov used old monophonic chants of the Russian Orthodox Church for his All-Night Vigil op. 37. However, the composer formed this material according to lateromantic sound ideas and also used a freer handling of compositional techniques and timbres. As part of the Rachmaninov series, CARUS
