A New Reading of Mendelssohn’s Early Symphonies

In the year prior to composing the works on this disc, the twelve year old Mendelssohn had written two operas, a five-part psalm, six symphonies in the manner of early composers, and some sonatas. These symphonies were most certainly were performed by Mendelssohn and others during the matinées presented every two weeks at his parents’ home. This detail provided the inspiration for this authentic, captivating interpretation by the musicians of the L’Orfeo Baroque Orchestra under their conductor Michi Gaigg.
