A big screen adaptation of writer Alan Bennett’s iconic and celebrated memoir, directed by long-standing Bennett collaborator Nicholas Hytner. The film tells the true story of the relationship between Alan Bennett and the singular Miss Shepherd, a woman of uncertain origins who ‘temporarily’ parked her van in Bennett’s London driveway and proceeded to live there for 15 years. Their unique story is funny, poignant and life-affirming. Best known for his work in film and television, George Fenton is one of the UK’s most successful composers, writing scores for over 100 films and collaborating with some of the most influential filmmakers. His transition from television to film scoring began in 1982 with Richard Attenborough's biopic Gandhi for which he was nominated, with his collaborator Ravi Shankar, for the Original Music Score Academy Award. George continued to work with Attenborough on movies including: Shadowlands, Cry Freedom, In Love and War and Grey Owl. George has developed other long-standing collaborations with film makers including: Nora Ephron, Richard Eyre, Stephen Frears, Nicholas Hytner, Ken Loach and Andy Tennant.
