The composers on this album range from the iconic John Cage to specialists working with new clarinet techniques such as Eric Mandat, via the great William O Smith (also known as jazz legend Bill Smith). There is a lot of variety here, within the context of a generally provocative and avant-garde collection.

Ian Mitchell has become one of Europe’s foremost clarinettists, performing, recording and broadcasting regularly, and specialising in contemporary works. He is Director of the ensemble Gemini (with three Métier CDs to their name) and has played with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, Michael Nyman Band and several other ensembles. He has received over 40 dedications and given world premieres of major works.
