It's hard to fault the lively advocacy of the German period band Les Amis de Philippe…under their harpsichord director Ludger Rémy. Fasch's allegros, often in passepied rhythm, go with a lusty swing. The braying, hollering brass enjoy themselves hugely, while oboes and pealing high horns spar agreeably in the F major overture. Textures are clear and well balanced…[these overtures] contain plenty to tickle the ear.

[Fasch] made the overture symphony his own, melding the French-style overture with the Italian sinfonia, producing three-movement symphonies for his Dresden audience that quest beyond his contemporaries into a new, richly orchestrated and structurally daring territory, nosing towards classical style...Pleasingly elegant playing makes this an enjoyable disc.
