In 2009, a sensational find stirred up global interest: a text-print containing a late version of Johann Sebastian Bach’s lost St Mark Passion was found at St Petersburg. Dating from 1744, the libretto includes two new arias which were previously unknown. The discovery underlines the St Mark Passion’s exceptional importance within the oeuvre of the great cantor at St Thomas. Harpsichordist Alexander Grychtolik has prepared the first reconstruction of this late version for the present CD.

The 75-strong Basle Boys' Choir lacks neither shading nor emotional engagement...Terry Wey's softly devout 'Mein Heiland, dich vergess ich nicht' (with a pair of rapturous violas da gamba) has rhetorical subtlety and his account of 'Falsche Welt' is the highlight of the reconstruction...this interesting project sheds a little bit of new light on Bach's enigmatic St Mark Passion.
