About
Reynaldo Hahn was missing from the Timpani catalogue, so we had to start someday! Here is the first instalment of this undertaking: the large piano cycle Le Rossignol éperdu. This nightingale, with its desperate song is, of course, Hahn himself. ‘This collection,’ wrote Hahn, ‘was almost entirely written with tears'.
This collection of 53 pieces, divided into four parts, is spread over two CDs.
One might as well say that this work calls for fingers sensitive to the slightest inflection of the discourse. Billy Eidi was perfectly suited to interpreting these pieces that are rarely present on disc.

Each number on its own is an exquisite gem and to hear a handful at a time is delightful; but I wonder if Hahn is best served by having the four suites presented in two lengthy tranches...despite the sensitive playing of Eidi.
