About
This captivating new Bach release will become a timeless piece of music which can only come from the outstanding combination of Giuliano Carmignola and Concerto Köln.
Though presenting a traditional piece, Carmignola and Concerto Köln bring new and outstanding colours into this often recorded repertoire, and their temperamental performance introduces a sparkling and thrilling interpretation of Bach’s concertos. Carmignola’s fiery and successful “Vivaldi con moto” will be continued with a more subtle and traditional Bach Concerto recording, a Co-Production between Deutsche Grammophon and Deutschlandfunk.
Carmignola is a unique artist and one of today’s most charismatic and captivating violinists, prompting The Strad to say “Timing is everything, and Carmignola has the timing of Sinatra. Rubato, portamento, pauses, tight-rope showmanship.”

Awards and reviews
November 2014
Carmignola is on characteristically ebullient form, bringing sparkling virtuosity to Bach's outer movements while revelling in the poetry of the inner ones...Carmignola's linear control is well-sustained and expressive.
November 2014
Carmignola's urgency never leaves the listener breathless...a performance of visceral resonance and poetic engagement which has never been bettered...Carmignola does not edit out every impurity or 'gamy' tuning and the benefits to the character of the whole are incalculable.

Carmignola is unquestionably a fine baroque violinist, and his performances with what is one of Europe’s leading period-instrument ensembles have all the right historical and stylistic credentials, but something about them seems routine.

Carmignola, sparkling virtuoso though he is, can sometimes seem to snatch at notes and exhibit a roughness and astringency of tone. Concerto Köln, too, adopts a "historically informed" stance in its clipped phrases, but at the same time there is plenty of healthy animation in the instrumental lines.
