About
In the series of 12 concertos, one seems to find a progression. The first six, all in major keys, with clear and luminous themes, rely on a varied and singing virtuosity. Magnificently written for the flute, with a serene spirit, they remain – although they are more developed – in the tradition.
The following concertos show the 'French Mozart' at the peak of the classical style, but are also turned towards the future, notably through a more demonstrative conception of the Soli and the orchestration.
The variety, quality and great spirituality of these concertos reveal François Devienne as one of the great masters of flute literature, and of the concertante genre in France.
