About
Malibran is proud to release a limited edition 10 CD set of the Paris Opera (Palais Garnier, not to be confused with the new Paris Opera of la Bastille).
This set contains a 56 page libretto in French and English and numerous illustrations, and contains more than 13 hours of recordings from 1900 to 1960.
This panorama of 60 years of Palais Garnier offers 2 major points of interest:
- All singers featured in this set have sung at the Palais Garnier except one: Cesar Vezzani (absolutely extraordinary in La Juive)
- All works presented here have been played or premiered at the Palais Garnier, and this includes a lot of rarities, such as Ascanio and Dejanire by Saint-Saens, Ariane and Le Mage by Massenet, Vercingetorix by Canteloube and Fervaal by Vincent d'Indy.
The creativity level of the Palais Garnier under the 30 years of Jacques Rouche, their director between 1914 and 1945, is astonishing! 71 new works were created there, creating a fantastic musical history of a theatre which is still alive and well.
