About

Choreography by Rudolf Nureyev.

This production from the Vienna State Opera presents The Nutcracker ballet in Nureyev’s final choreography, the 1985 Paris version.

The critic Clive Barnes set the tone by remarking: “No version of The Nutcracker that we have ever seen has been more potently dramatic; few have displayed so sharp an imprint of personal style.”

It is staged by Nureyev’s pupil and protegé Manuel Legris of the Wiener Staatsballett.

Shishov rises fully to the challenge. He is one of what is these days quite a rare breed, the danseur noble who radiates authority and confidence merely by his physical bearing on stage...[Konovalova] does well in the first Act and certainly makes a convincing adolescent Clara.
