About
Urszula Bartkiewicz one of the leading Polish harpsichordists. Her wide ranging solo, chamber and orchestral repertoire spans music from the 14th century to the present. She has given numerous premieres of works by contemporary composers. The Baroque notion of affections was associated with the conviction that the soul was in control of the body. It was believed, however, that human beings surrendered to emotions that disturbed their inner balance and that man, when losing control of himself, upset his entire organism. As a remedy, ways and means were being sought to control human emotions. Music turned out to play an important role in these efforts as it proved to exert an effective impact on the human soul.
