Frank Bungarten once received the higher orders of guitar playing from the great Andrés Segovia himself. The sonata by Antonio José is a genuine surprise. Discovered only shortly prior to the recording, this unusually extensive work adds an entirely new dimension to the guitar repertoire. Manuel María Ponce supplies Mexican flair. Although Ponce was trained in Berlin and Paris, the influence of Indian folklore is clearly audible.
