At the centenary of the conductor Hungarian Sandor Vegh (1912-1997), the Budapest Music Center label releases a double album of concert recordings made in Budapest String Festival in 1993 and 1995. great conductor there runs his own orchestra, the Camerata Academica Salzburg, in symphonies of Mozart, Haydn and Schubert and Beethoven Coriolan Overture. An invaluable witness to one of the greatest conductors of the twentieth century.

In my experience there are only two conductors who could have delivered these pungent, characterful and lovingly played performances...The ceremonious opening of Mozart's Haffner Symphony is muscular and broadly paced, the Andante that follows patient and expressively drawn, which makes the swift Minuet and punchy closing Presto doubly effective.
