About
Sergei Bezkorvany was born in Toronto. He came to England in 1953 and became a member of the Sadler's Wells Opera and Ballet orchestra. After several years he returned to Canada. He was appointed the Concert Master/Leader of the Halifax Symphony Orchestra as well as the Concert Master of the Halifax CBC Radio Orchestra. He occupied these positions for several years.
Later, Bezkorvany went to the USA and was appointed Assistant Concert master of the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. He returned to England in 1966 and was a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and later a member of the Philharmonia Orchestra. He was Leader of the Fine Arts Orchestra of London at the Festival in Ravenna, Italy and Leader of the BBC Scottish Orchestra as well as Leader of many chamber groups.
Bezkorvany made his debut in 1972 at the Wigmore Hall, where he gave a completely unaccompanied programme.
Michael Reeves is the accompanist in the Turina and Martinu pieces; Julian Dawson plays the Szymanowski and Elgar.
