About
Although many composers value the bassoon’s melodiousness and its ability to create certain effects, it nevertheless does not belong to the group of most popular instruments. This album therefore seems to be even more valuable, fully depicting the baritone-bass character of the bassoon and its spectacular capabilities in all registers of the instrument.
Katarzyna Zdybel is one of the most accomplished bassoonists of the young generation. She studied at the Academy of Music in Warsaw, completed her postgraduate studies (Solistenklasse) with honours degree in the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart, and since 2009 has been a PhD student at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław.
She has received numerous awards at international competitions: in 2012 she won First Prize in IDRS Fernand Gillet–Hugo Fox Bassoon Competition in Oxford, Ohio (USA); in 2009 she won Second Prize (first not awarded) and the prize for the best interpretation of a newly written piece during the International Competition of Moscow Conservatory for Winds and Percussion.
She performs as a soloist and chamber musician. In the 2011-12 season she was the principal bassoonist of the Royal Danish Orchestra. As an orchestral musician she has performed with the SWR Saarbrücken-Kaiserslautern, Iceland Symphony Orchestra and Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2007 she has been principal bassoonist of the Wrocław Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.
