About

Il pirata is one of the most successful operas by Vincenzo Bellini. It was written in 1827 and was one of the first romantic operas written in Italy. The background is 13th century Sicily, a great inspiration for Bellini’s dramatic genius for expressing the passions of love and revenge.

Starring the great Lucia Aliberti and Stuart Neill, expertly backed by the Orchestra of the Deutsche Opera Berlin, conducted by opera specialist Marcello Viotti.

Booklet contains extensive liner notes and a synopsis of the opera, the libretto (Italian) is available on the Brilliant Classics website.
