About
Tom Poster’s debut recital disc for Champs Hill Records takes ‘Song and Dance’ as a theme, exploring obvious and more subtle connections.
Including three of Grieg’s Slåtter, Gluck’s Dance of the Blessed Spirits, Folksongs by Bartok and three pieces from Kurtag’s Játékok, the disc epitomises Tom’s creative approach to finding resonances between music of different eras and styles.
Tom’s arrangements of Gershwin and Cole Porter songs have been recorded and performed extensively. Someone to Watch Over Me (which Tom describes as ‘one of the most perfect melodies ever written’) is included here is a brilliant performance.
Tom Poster is internationally recognised as a pianist of outstanding artistry and versatility, in demand as a soloist and a chamber musician across an unusually extensive repertoire.
He has been described as “a marvel, [who] can play anything in any style” (The Herald), “an unparalleled sound-magician” (General-Anzeiger), a “young lion” (The Guardian), and as possessing “great authority and astounding virtuosity” (Est Républicain).

This lovingly chosen recital...celebrates dance and song...Less robust or outgoing than many others, Tom Poster makes a haunting virtue of inwardness and refinement. His sound is warm and beguiling...His velvet-tipped sonority, his colour and nuance make something very special of the Gluck.
