About
Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) maintained an active performing and conducting career in addition to his life as a composer. His keyboard repertoire included classical works by Beethoven, Bach and Mozart as well as his own compositions. Brahms used an 1868 JB Streicher fortepiano that resided in his Viennese home until the end of his life. The JB Streicher used in this recording was built in 1851. Twentieth-century critics have labeled Brahms’ piano music as thick and heavy, yet Brahms must have heard his music quite differently on his own Streicher piano. Boyd McDonald with this new this recording on DOREMI is set to put the record straight.
