Awards and reviews
April 2014
Conlon seems to recognise that the composer was in his element with action rather than reflection, and drives the music forwards with just enough flexibility to avoid monotony and an unfailing attention to balancing the often weighty orchestration against the vocal declamation.
February 2014
Not only is Bridge's recording of a good standard, another enticement for those who are interested in acquiring a version, but the leading five singers and the conductor build a performance that presents the opera to its advantage.

the main roles have been wonderfully well cast; Brubaker is tireless in the strenuous tenor writing, and Kampe a wonderful mix of chasteness and sensual awareness. It's superbly conducted, too; James Conlon understands this musical world of decaying romanticism perfectly, and lets the LA Opera Orchestra revel in its luxuriance.
