Francesca Lombardi Mazzulli seizes her opportunities...presenting the full fury of a women twice scorned with warmth and humanity. As Cuniza, Manuela Custer’s richer, meatier mezzo makes a good contrast with the soprano of her rival and subsequent friend, and she demonstrates excellent dramatic instincts throughout. As the dastardly Riccardo, Norman Reinhardt’s tenor is fluent throughout the range and he shows facility in the higher register.
