Claudio Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo first Performed in 1607 was composed by one of the most respected musicians in Northern Italy and is thought to be the first full opera ever performed. This piece combined the musical interludes with the drama itself creating an exciting new Genre with new possibilities for composers across the globe.
