About
Ignacy Jan Pederewski always dreamed of composing an opera.
However, he could not have anticipated that the realization of his dream – the opera Manru – would be the crowning achievement of his compositional career. Manru tells the story of the tragic love between a highland girl and a gypsy but is much more than a love melodrama typical of 19th century opera as it is the first Polish opera inspired by the music of Wagner, although it still remains a thoroughly original work.
