While Hallenberg's coloratura proves consistently superb, the plum-luscious contralto tone is generally too soft-grained...The singer's unfailing musicality and sincerity offer much pleasure, however...Zedda's speeds are well judged (even if ensemble is occasionally a trifle shaky).

The greatest star of the recording is Alberto Zedda himself...[Papatanasiu's] command of the role is exceptional, showing compelling technique, arresting stage presence and glowingly beautiful voice...Every bit as good is the exceptional Arsace of Ann Hallenberg. Perhaps even more than Papatanasiu, she has the full measure of the bel canto style and technique required to succeed in this sort of repertoire.
