About
After the premiere of Oedipe à Colone at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig 1881, not much more was heard about Gouvy’s free adaptation of Sophocles tragedy. Joachim Fontaine examined the score under its layer of archival mould and spent many years reconstructing Gouvy’s work before its revival and recording here.
In 2012 the Kantorei Saarlouis and Grand Société Philharmonique were awarded the prestigious Grand Prix of the Académie du Disque in Paris for their premiere recording of Gouvy’s oratorio Iphigénie en Tauride (CPO 7775042).
