Takacs-Nagy takes up the baton and readily finds the music's wit, plus some moments of surprisingly intense beauty...The student forces deliver a lively performance, and though none of the singers is exceptional, the soprano Clémence Tilquin gives a good lead in the title role

with such well-judged singing, speaking and playing, this is a thoroughly enjoyable performance of an unusual and substantial work by a fine composer who is too little heard today.

This is an excellent reading by a student orchestra whose members obviously love the music and relish every bar. The conductor coaxes a convinced and deeply convincing reading that clearly deserves to be heard...strongly humane and beautifully crafted music.

taken on its own terms, Aschenbrödel is glorious, rich stuff. Martin’s oblique, ambivalent take on jazz lends several of his dances a brittle, Kurt Weill-ish feel...The orchestral playing is indecently accomplished, the players’ sense of shared discovery palpable. Unmissable, in other words.
