Famed for her film score to Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut, Jocelyn Pook is a highly versatile composer who has written extensively for film, television, the theatre and the concert hall.

Pook has worked with some of the world’s leading directors, musicians, artists and arts institutions including Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese, the Royal Opera House, BBC Proms, Andrew Motion, Peter Gabriel, Massive Attack and Laurie Anderson.

DESH was composed to accompany Akram Khan’s theatre work of the same name. For the score, Jocelyn Pook combined field recordings she made in Bangladesh (Khan’s homeland) with hymns, chants and the rhythm of urban chaos. The music translates into sound the sights, energy and colour Pook experienced into fragile pieces scored for chamber ensemble as well as pieces harnessing the power of full orchestra. Singers from around the world complete the score Debra Caine of the Times called, “haunting and magical, excited and angry.”

Pook is currently writing a large-scale symphonic work commissioned by and to be premiered by the BBC Concert Orchestra on Monday 3 December at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
