About

“For the Haydn disc I suggest Op 20/4, Op 64/5 The Lark OR 64/6, and Op 76/1 … a good spread of the early middle and late periods of his maturity. We could also add Op 103 the very last complete movements Haydn wrote ….. the 2 middle movements of a quartet Haydn didn’t have the strength to complete .. Though they are top-class works. Instead he wrote a few notes which he had printed on his card which had words underneath saying ‘Hin ist alle meine Kraft. Alt und schwach bin ich ……….‘ ‚‘All my strength has gone…. Old and weak am I …’. [this is track 15 on the new CD] I know how he felt ……..” David Waterman - cello

Awards and reviews

June 2013

The recorded sound...has the fullness and realism of a live performance. The Endellion String Quartet respond to these scores with an equally full-toned generosity, though they fine down their vibratos to a remote purity for the wonderful Adagio affetuoso

March 2013

the Endellion's playing is nearly always beyond reproach, and this contrasting array of Haydn's quartet styles and personalities is no exception. They bring out with very simply clarity all of Haydn's humour.

23rd April 2013

The Endellions play this music with a high degree of polish and refinement. You get the feeling that they have lived with these works for a long time...they penetrate to the core of the music, projecting elegance and lyricism with spontaneity. This is cultivated playing at its very best. Intonation and phrasing are always immaculate.
