Gentle lullabies and quiet music combine to form this special programme of music to help bring sleep. But rather than gather together electronic sounds made by synthesised keyboards, we have brought together a selection of fine music. All of it is classical, performed correctly by instruments of the right period (including a very fine eighteenth century piano for Mozart), but it has been programmed in a different way from the normal classical CD style. Instead of a general progression through a programme, the album gradually gets calmer and quieter, voices and instruments give way to solo piano, then to lute, clavichord and harp. The music becomes more repetitious and slow, and eventually fades away – into sleep, we hope!
