About
Trombonist Sue Addison has specialized in historic performance by giving talks & recitals on the trombones owned by both Gustav Holst & Sir Edward Elgar. On this recording she has assembled a program of music by Elgar himself & his contemporaries, arranged for trombone& piano but also incorporating harp, trumpets, piccolo, double bass & a second trombone. Using Elgar's own trombone throughout, Sue recreates the feeling of an Edwardian salon, while the booklet notes give much of the history of Elgar's relationship to the instrument, & a number of charming anecdotes which give a flavour of the humour of a man who is often regarded as a starchily imperialistic figure, but in fact was full of humanity & warmth.
