de Risio's performance with Armonia Atenea is one of tireless dynamism, the trumpets, oboes and kettle drums parade-ground smart in the overture and tempestuous sinfonias...With the possible exception of Vassilis Kavayas's Porsenna (too much the cartoon villain), the casting favours clear, agile voices

[Nesi and Karaianni] both deal expertly with the bravura passages...Nesi's singing of the slow 'Saper ti basti' is wondrous: her appealing mezzo combined with soft horns and strings makes you realise why Gluck was so admired in the 18th century for his evocation of classical antiquity...All the characters deliver the recitatives in exemplary style. The conducting and the playing are first-rate.

There is certainly some very fine singing here and the playing of the period-instrument Armonia Atenea...is lively...Ardent Gluckians with good Italian will certainly want to acquire this set and they will be rewarded by virtuosic and long-lined singing

The musicians of the original-instrument band Armonia Atenea acquit themselves with distinction. There is no lack of drama...The singers too seem inspired by their voyage of discovery. Clearly an element of vocal virtuosity was one of the opera’s priorities, and there is never any suggestion that such enthusiasms are denied in this performance. As such, several of the performances must be every inch as heroic as those experienced at Bologna in 1763
