About

Robert Suter, born in 1919, spent most of his life in Basel - a city renowned for its devotion to modern music. This CD presents both facets of his personality. His two Suites for piano, written in 1943 and 1945 when he was in his mid-twenties, show a composer in tune with his time and aware of the Schoenbergian currents around him, but without descending into any form of dogmatism. His ‘German Chansons’ on the other hand, seven miniature songs written between 1978 and 1987, display an ironical, satirical side to him.
