Ropartz: Symphony No. 3
This new performance is well played...and the four vocal soloists are all satisfactory. The choral writing is often very demanding and if the choirs here are not perfect, they sing with conviction......

About

In 1906, the year that saw the first performance of his third symphony, Joseph-Guy Ropartz had been head of the conservatory and the orchestra of Nancy for twelve years. He brought to them a new dynamism centred on the rediscovery of the great works of French composers. Hence, he was inspired and influence by the works of Chausson, Debussy, Franck and Ravel.

Awards and reviews

January 2012

This new performance is well played...and the four vocal soloists are all satisfactory. The choral writing is often very demanding and if the choirs here are not perfect, they sing with conviction... [Ossonce] clearly relishes its colours and harmonic richness, while resisting the temptation to let things become congested or over-blown...There's a lot for lovers of late Romanticism to relish

Serious, underrated music in a decent performance.
