About

‘Odisea Negra’ is the second recording on Naïve by La Chimera, an ensemble whose activities focus on the creation of original projects at the intersection of various art forms, with a special interest in the connections between past and present. This new project is an exploration of various links between America, Africa and Europe and was created by Argentinian musician and conductor Eduardo Egüez and Venezuelian singer Ivan Garcia, with a significant contribution from the renowned Senegalian singer Ablaye Cissoko.

In 2001 Sabina Colonna-Preti founded the viol ensemble La Chimera, which took on a new form after meeting up with Eduardo Egüez. While retaining its characteristic original sonority as a consort of viols, La Chimera became a flexibly-sized group composed of artists with an international reputation. La Chimera’s first project, Buenos Aires Madrigal, was recorded for the ‘Early Fusion’ series of m.a recordings and was very well received by the international press. The group followed this with Tonos y Tonadas, a blend of music and literature of the Spanish Baroque with modern Latin-American folklore. A third recording has been released on Naïve, La Voce di Orfeo, in which a small group from the ensemble pays tribute to the Italian tenor Francesco Rasi, the first Orpheus in Monteverdi’s opera.
