About
The world-famous cellist, conductor and music teacher Casals composed nearly 80 works for a wide range of instrumental and vocal groups but the majority of these have not been published. This CD gives us an opportunity to discover just two of his compositions. The Alart Quartet comes from a new generation of Spanish performers and has its own special character. Josep Colomé has performed internationally since the age of sixteen.

Casals's String Quartet is the work of a 15-year-old debutant in 1893 and it sounds no more or less than that...But full credit to the Alart Quartet for devoting themselves to the cause, even if they might have given the rather unrelieved textures a bit more help in the direction of transparency...Evidently Casals felt a need to keep this side of his musicianship alive, and, whatever his music's intrinsic merits, this nicely recorded disc has an undeniable documentary value.
