About

The choir academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival was founded by its director Rolf Beck in 2002. Young singers from all over Europe, South Africa and South America meet each year and perform the works which they have rehearsed at the academy. Awards and reviews

November 2011

This live performance under Rolf Beck finds the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Chor Lubeck making some delicious sounds at times, ably supported by the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, but there is not much that sticks for long in the memory. Baritone David Wilson-Johnson is in typically fine voice...The inclusion of Cantique de Jean Racine and a couple of motets is welcome.

October 2011

his reading is characterised by extreme restraint, greatly assisted by the softly comfortable acoustic of Rendsburg's Christkirche...but this performance is both expansive (as in the Introit) and extremely intimate (as in a deliciously affectionate Agnus Dei)...Wilson-Johnson mingles majesty with gracefulness while Chiyuki Okamura produces a most enchanting performance of the "Pie Jesu".

July/August 2011

[Wilson-Johnson's] Libera me' is noble and well projected...At its best - the pure soprano line at the start of the 'In Paradisum', for instance - Rolf Beck conducts a straightforward performance that has some admirable moments in which he teases out orchestral details, as at the climax of the Agnus Dei, where the horns sound splendid.
