About

Équilibres was founded in 2006 as a cooperation of orchestral instrumentalists, conservatory teachers, soloists, and chamber musicians. Their artistic director is violinist Agnès Pyka.

Today the ensemble, in many forms, offers a great variety of programmes, ranging from the most curious and rare 18th-century chamber works to contemporary music.

One of their aims is to help the audiences discover the music of our days, and to that end some of the programmes are conceived in collaboration with contemporary artists including Belgian composer, choreographer and director Thierry de Mey and François Rossé whose Mukae was premiered by Des Équilibres and the composer at the piano.

During its five years of existence, the ensemble has been invited to several festivals in France, and has appeared in Paris, Marseille, Toulon, Alger, Budapest, Seville, as well as at international concert tours in Lebanon, Italy and Albania.

In quest for new or unpublished repertoire, Des Équilibres dedicated its first recording to two string quartets by a composer of Hungarian origin, Sándor Veress. The recording of the second quartet on this album is a world premiere.
