About

Anders Koppel is to a rare degree a composer of his time. With one foot firmly planted in the classical European musical tradition and the other in world music, rock and jazz, Anders Koppel’s career as a composer can be seen as one long continuous mission to unite these cultures in a contemporary musical idiom. This has resulted in a long succession of original works, all bearing the mark of a special ability to communicate emotions and energy, powerfully and straightforwardly, between musicians and audience. In the Concertos of Anders Koppel heard on this disc, one can clearly see his love of music-making and eclectic idiom.

Awards and reviews

November 2011

[Koppel] has found his way through experimentalism and rock back to something not so far removed from his father's neo-classicism, at least if these three concertante works from the first decade of the 21st century are at all representative...By the end of the disc I did find that Koppel's compulsion to return to the tonic triad was beginning to pall...But these beautifully performed, admirably recorded works still make a more than welcome introduction
