In Flanders Fields Volume 67 - Jef van Hoof

Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava, Ivo Venkov

The Janáček Phil, Ostrava acquit themselves with evident commitment for Ivo Venkov. The two overtures show not just extensive preparation but also that the playing has 'caught fire'.

About

The Remembrance Overture is a parody of militarism and is a lovely, full symphonic sound. Premiered in 1930, it was again conducted by von Karajan in 1935. The world premiere recording of the 2nd symphony is a war symphony but is still gentle and meditative in parts, contrasting with the fiery passages.

Stunning, lyrical music.
