About
Czech composer and violist Oskar Nedbal moved to Vienna in the early 1900s where he enjoyed a career as a conductor. He soon felt the allure of the flourishing Viennese operetta market. Die Winzerbraut (The Vineyard Bride) was Nedbal’s third operetta and was influenced by Croatian folk music and dances.

Nedbal's idiom is fairly close to that of Lehar, whose tunefulness he can at times approach if perhaps not equal; but his music has verve and colour, and he has a good dramatic instinct for keeping a plot moving...None of the soloists here is outstanding, in the positive sense that they are a true company and work together as a group with a full and unselfish feeling for one another's qualities.
