About
This opera was created for the Vienna State Opera and the Viennese premiere took place in February 2010. Six months later the curtain went up on the Frankfurt premiere. This is a live recording of that performance. Claudia Barainsky sings the title role.

Reimann seems to have selected his subject to suit the particular expressionist strengths of his own musical language, rather than tailoring his music to the specifics of the drama...the mix is powerfully effective, and this recording, taken from the production in Frankfurt last autumn, in which Claudia Barainsky is outstanding in the title role, conveys a real sense of its theatrical impact.
