About

One of the UK’s rising stars, Thomas Carroll is one of only two artists who have successfully auditioned for both Young Concert Artist’s Trust in London and Young Concert Artists Inc in New York.

Thomas studied in Vienna with Heinrich Schiff, and this CD explores links between three major composers, all of whom lived, worked and died in Vienna.

Though he has recorded numerous orchestral discs, this is Thomas Carroll’s debut solo CD, and is performed on Heinrich Schiff’s Guadagnini cello of 1767.

…an artist to watch.” Geoffrey Norris, The Telegraph

…an authority and technical assurance that many a more seasoned artist might envy.” The Strad

Both are intensely musical accounts, with no details overlooked and no challenges ducked, and there is never any sense of either partner hogging the limelight. Yet Williams appears the dominant partner, taking the lead with forceful confidence in the scherzos of both works...while always allowing Carroll's warm, rich tone to have its say as well. In Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata the roles are reversed
