About

The precociously gifted Korngold followed in the footsteps of the great late romantic composers Richard Strauss, Mahler and Pfitzner, his unwavering commitment to refined melody, ravishing harmony and formal coherence earning him the reputation of a musical anomaly in the face of the rising avant garde. Yet these very characteristics now drive immense interest in his music, among which the varied songs on this album rank among his most intimate and imaginative small-scale works. This new Naxos series is set to reveal countless treasures, worthy to be heard beside those of Schubert, Schumann, Brahms and Wolf.

November 2011

The attractive young voices of soprano Britta Stallmeister and baritone Uwe Schenker-Primus fall easily on the ear and their interpretations offer many perceptive and poetic insights, as do the deft piano parts that are much more than mere adornments...It's a real pleasure to hear the youthful baritone of Schenker-Primus in the Eichendorff setting, an astonishing achievement from the young Korngold.

July/August 2011

You can listen only in awe of the talent of one so young; at the sophistication of 'Waldeinsamkeit', particularly in the piano part, and the self-assurance with which the young Korngold sets the texts. The baritone Uwe Schenker-Primus makes the most of his walk through this late-Romantic wood
